Event Title: Play Trail Launch - Te Kōrero Tākaro I Stories of Play
Event Description: Join us to celebrate the opening of the Te Kōrero Tākaro I Stories of PlayŌtautahi Play Trail in the Christchurch Central City on Race Relations Day.
What to Expect:
Fun and Games: join in and have a go at some traditional games. A Snakes and Ladders board has been installed out The Piano on Armagh Street, a marbles game outside the Christchurch Art Gallery and in the Arts Centre you can watch a video installation features Chapteh from Malaysia and Singapore and hacky sack from Aotearoa. We’ll finish at The Commons (on the corner of Durham and Kilmore Streets), where participants can have a go at the Fijian game of Pani.
Engaging Stories: Audio collected through community-based interviews is available to listen to via QR codes installed alongside the games or here on the Te Kōrero Tākaro I Stories of Play webpage. You’ll hear the origins of Snakes and Ladders as an Indian game to teach morality and memories of playing Pani Fiji and marbles in seven different countries.
Share your Memories: This project also invites participants to share their own memories of play via an online interview and file upload portal.
Who Should Attend: This event is open to everyone! Bring your whānau/family and a playful attitude!

Venue and parking: Meet at the game site 4 - Snakes and Ladders - outside The Piano - 142 Armagh Street. There is no parking available for this event.
